Bills Offensive Line Preview: The Meathead Position Group That Might Matter More Than We Think
Offensive line talk has always felt like one of those meathead football talking points.
You win in the trenches.
It starts up front.
They have to establish the line of scrimmage.
Blah, blah, blah.
I also tend to think sports-radio hosts roll their eyes whenever callers start screaming about the offensive line because, frankly, it’s one of the hardest position groups for any of us sitting on the couch to actually evaluate. If a quarterback gets sacked, whose fault was it? Did the left tackle get beat? Did the guard miss a stunt? Did the quarterback hold the ball too long? Did the running back blow the protection? Did the offensive coordinator call something that never had a chance?
Same thing with the running game.
Is James Cook great because James Cook is great? Is it Joe Brady’s scheme? Josh Allen’s presence changing how defenses play Buffalo? The offensive line? Or some combination of all of it?Probably the last one.
But I’ve also watched enough Bills football to know that dismissing offensive-line play as generic football-guy nonsense can be dangerous. Because if we’re going to spend the rest of our lives discussing what ended those Super Bowl Bills, there’s an offensive-line footnote that I don’t think gets talked about nearly enough.
Will Wolford and Howard “House” Ballard disappeared in consecutive offseasons.
Wolford was Buffalo’s starting left tackle for the first three Super Bowl teams and made the Pro Bowl in 1990 and 1992. He left for Indianapolis after the 1992 season. The Bills replaced him with John Fina and still made their fourth Super Bowl in 1993.
Then Ballard left.
House had started 80 consecutive games at right tackle and made consecutive Pro Bowls in 1992 and 1993 before leaving for Seattle in 1994.
Think about that.
Buffalo lost two Pro Bowl offensive tackles in back-to-back offseasons. The 1992 line featured Wolford and Ballard at tackle, with Jim Ritcher — himself a Pro Bowler that season — inside. By 1994, the Bills’ starting line was John Fina, Corbin Lacina, Kent Hull, John Davis and Glenn Parker. The Condo was definitely not as well built as the house.
I’m not suggesting that’s the reason the Super Bowl Bills finally fell apart. Those teams were getting older everywhere. But when we talk about what Buffalo lost after that run, losing two Pro Bowl tackles in consecutive years has to be somewhere near the top of the list.
Which brings us to the current Bills.
Because after years when offensive line seemed like a legitimate weakness — and years when Josh Allen’s ability to escape pressure could cover up some of it — Buffalo has quietly built one of the most important units on the roster. And we actually have some numbers that help us understand what they’re doing. Where Did Buffalo Actually Run?
This might be my favorite stat when evaluating this offensive line.
There were 536 rushing attempts classified into those three directional groups.
312 of them — 58.2% — went between the tackles.
That’s not particularly subtle.
Even crazier?
Buffalo averaged 5.3 yards per carry on those runs, No. 1 in the NFL.
Think about how ridiculous that combination is. It’s one thing to average 5.3 YPC on some small collection of runs where you catch defenses in favorable looks.
The Bills did it 312 times.
They produced 88 first downs and 19 rushing touchdowns running through the left guard, center or right guard areas.
Buffalo’s right side was good, too. Runs toward right tackle/right end averaged 5.2 YPC, tied for 11th, and produced a first down on 30.9% of attempts. The relative weakness?
Left tackle/left end: 4.6 YPC and tied for 17th.
That’s not terrible. It’s just noticeably less dominant than what Buffalo accomplished inside. So if you’re asking what Buffalo’s rushing identity actually was:
INSIDE: 5.3 YPC — 1st NFL
RIGHT: 5.2 YPC — T-11th
LEFT: 4.6 YPC — T-17th
Maybe the meatheads have a point and it is just a case of a broken clock is right twice a day.
LT Dion Dawkins
6’5”, 320 pounds | Temple | 2nd Round, 2017
Dawkins is basically the old man of this group now. This may be his swan song, especially when you see how much money they have invested. He’s been Buffalo’s starting left tackle since 2017 and has gone from being a good young tackle to one of the faces of the franchise.
The six sacks are worth mentioning because it’s considerably more than the three he surrendered the previous season. But there’s an important lesson here about offensive-line statistics.
Dawkins still received an 81.8 pass-blocking grade, seventh among tackles.
So which number tells us who he was?
Probably both.
There were individual plays where Dawkins lost badly enough to result in sacks, but over hundreds of pass-blocking snaps, he remained a high-level protector. The running numbers are also interesting.
Buffalo’s left tackle/left end runs averaged 4.6 YPC and ranked tied for 17th.
Again, perfectly respectable. But nowhere near what Buffalo did inside.
Dawkins is entering the stage of his career where age becomes part of every evaluation. Is he still an upper-level NFL left tackle? He lost a ton of weight and he’s been giving out quotes about not being Mr. Nice Guy.
But 2026 should tell us whether those six sacks were just statistical noise or the beginning of some decline.
LG Alec Anderson
6’5”, 305 pounds | UCLA | Undrafted, 2022
Here’s the biggest change.
David Edwards is gone, and Anderson beat out Austin Corbett for the starting left-guard job. Anderson has essentially been Buffalo’s offensive-line utility knife. Guard. Tackle. Extra offensive lineman. Whatever they’ve needed.
His limited 2025 numbers were intriguing:
There’s obviously a sample-size warning attached to all of that. But look again at Buffalo’s directional numbers.
58.2% of its charted runs went between the tackles.
That’s why replacing Edwards isn’t some minor roster transaction. You’re changing one of the three blockers in the area where Buffalo ran most frequently and ranked No. 1 in football at 5.3 YPC. With Anderson winning the job…does that 82.6 run-blocking grade translates to 700 or 800 snaps? You also have to factor in there’s no more Aaron Kromer. Buffalo may have developed another starting offensive lineman out of nowhere. If his pass protection doesn’t hold up?
That’s a different conversation.
C Connor McGovern
6’5”, 318 pounds | Penn State | 3rd Round, 2019
I think McGovern might be one of the more underappreciated players on this roster. Buffalo originally signed him to play guard. Mitch Morse left. McGovern moved to center.
And it worked.
That’s pretty good when the guy standing directly behind you is the most valuable player in the organization. He also seems like he’s a leader based on having Pizza parties. He carried the leadership torch from Mitch Morse who carried it from Eric Wood .(We will skip Russel Bodine and Ryan Groh pass torching of 2018)
But now add the rushing numbers.
Buffalo was No. 1 in the NFL at 5.3 YPC between the tackles.
You can’t give McGovern all the credit for that any more than you can blame him every time an inside run gets stuffed. That’s the entire point of why evaluating offensive linemen is difficult. But it’s also pretty hard to look at 312 inside rushing attempts at 5.3 a pop and conclude the center wasn’t doing something right.
Buffalo clearly agrees about his value. The Bills (AND JOSH ALLEN) extended McGovern this offseason through 2029 as part of their effort to keep the core of this line together.
RG O’Cyrus Torrence
6’5”, 347 pounds | Florida | 2nd Round, 2023
He’s enormous.
That’s my expert scouting analysis.
Torrence has been basically impossible to remove from Buffalo’s lineup since the day he arrived. He’s started 50 of 51 games, and the Bills just rewarded him with a reported four-year, $78.4 million extension with $46 million guaranteed, keeping him under contract through 2030.
Here’s where offensive-line evaluation gets weird again. A 54.6 individual run-blocking grade doesn’t exactly scream dominant. Yet Buffalo was No. 1 in football running between the tackles at 5.3 YPC. Then Buffalo handed Torrence almost $80 million.Joe Brady recently called him “one of the top guards in football.”
So maybe this is a perfect example of why looking at one offensive-line grade and declaring a player good or bad is silly. Whatever Buffalo sees on film — and whatever Torrence is contributing within this scheme — they clearly believe he’s a major part of what makes the offense work.
RT Spencer Brown
6’8”, 311 pounds | Northern Iowa | 3rd Round, 2021
Brown might be my favorite example of offensive-line development.
When Buffalo drafted him, he was basically a giant athletic project from Northern Iowa and I don’t think any draft experts expected much, but he took over for Daryl Williams pretty quickly. Now?
He’s one of the better run-blocking right tackles in football.
Brown’s run-blocking grade matches what Buffalo actually accomplished on his side.
Right tackle/right end:
123 attempts
5.2 YPC
T-11th NFL
8 touchdowns
30.9% first-down rate
That last number might be my favorite. Nearly one out of every three runs toward the right tackle/right end resulted in a first down. There are obviously other variables involved, but Brown’s individual run-blocking grade and Buffalo’s team production are pointing in the same direction. The concern is pass protection. His 61.3 pass-blocking grade was nowhere near his run-blocking performance.
But if I’m looking for someone who embodies what Buffalo has become offensively, Brown might be it. Big. Physical. Athletic. He may be a giant Maga shit poster on Twitter, but he’s very good at what he does.
Baptism by fire
Since 1995, Buffalo has had 14 rookie offensive linemen start at least 10 games, tied for seventh-most in the NFL. Three of those players are on the current roster. I don’t anticipate any rookies starting on the OL.
Pass protection is good, but Houston is a problem
If there’s one area where I’m not sure there’s much to complain about with this offensive line, it’s pass protection.
Josh Allen was pressured on just 18.0% of his dropbacks in 2025, the fourth-lowest rate among quarterbacks who started at least eight games.
He was hurried 30 times and hit 29 times while playing all 17 games.
Now, there is one giant horror show we need to acknowledge: Houston. The Texans absolutely destroyed Buffalo’s pass protection. Allen was pressured on 15 of 45 dropbacks (33%) and sacked a career-high eight times in the 23-19 loss. Will Anderson Jr. had 2.5 sacks, Danielle Hunter had two, and there were stretches where it felt like Buffalo might as well have just yelled “good luck, Josh” at the snap.
And obviously some of this is Josh Allen. He even admitted afterward that a couple of those Houston sacks were on him for trying to escape instead of getting rid of the ball. Trying to separate offensive line play from the quarterback is part of what makes evaluating this stuff such a pain in the ass. Allen can escape pressure, extend plays and turn what looks like a sack for most quarterbacks into eight yards and a first down.
But you also can’t give him all the credit. At some point, when your quarterback is among the least-pressured starters in football despite having one game where he was sacked eight freaking times, the guys blocking for him are doing their jobs. Houston was a disaster. Over the course of the entire season, though, Buffalo’s pass protection was pretty damn good.
Maybe Offensive Line Isn’t Such a Meathead Talking Point
I’m still not going to pretend I can watch the All-22 and definitively tell you why every offensive-line play worked. I don’t think most people can. Five offensive linemen are working together. The quarterback is setting protections. Tight ends and backs are involved. Defensive fronts change. Joe Brady is designing the play. James Cook is deciding where to cut.
It’s interconnected.
But eventually the production becomes difficult to ignore.
Buffalo ran between the tackles 312 times.
They averaged 5.3 yards per carry.
That ranked No. 1 in the NFL.
They scored 19 touchdowns doing it.
They averaged another 5.2 YPC running right.
And Buffalo has responded by spending real money to keep this group together. Brown is under contract through 2028, McGovern through 2029 and Torrence through 2030.
The biggest question is left guard.
Because if Anderson — or Corbett — can replace Edwards without disrupting what Buffalo accomplished inside, the Bills aren’t simply bringing back a good offensive line. They’re bringing back the core of an offensive line that helped create the most efficient between-the-tackles rushing attack in football.
Maybe that’s why I’ve started thinking about Wolford and House Ballard again. Those Super Bowl teams didn’t lose everything overnight. Wolford left after 1992. Ballard followed after 1993. Buffalo went from having two Pro Bowl tackles bookending the line to having neither one by 1994.
We remember Kelly.
We remember Thurman.
We remember Reed.
We remember Bruce.
Nobody sits around the bar reminiscing about offensive tackles. Maybe we should. Because for all the complicated explanations of why an offense works, sometimes losing Will Wolford one year and House Ballard the next really does matter. And maybe all that meathead talk about winning up front isn’t quite as dumb as I thought.
The Curious Case of John Murphy’s Bills Credential
Here’s an interesting little media nugget involving longtime Bills broadcaster John Murphy. I wrote about how Murphy went heel on the Bills last week, well, to steal another wrestling term, the Bills have given him his receipt. According to a media source, longtime Bills broadcaster John Murphy was granted a credential for the first preseason game at the new Highmark Stadium, although he ultimately didn’t attend.
Now, with the regular season approaching, I’m told Murphy has been denied a credential for the season.
So what changed between then and now? HMMMMMMM I WONDER????? Murphy did recently write a column questioning whether first-year head coach Joe Brady has enough experience to lead a Super Bowl contender. The timing makes the change in credential status interesting.
A media source told me one explanation given for Murphy’s situation is that he’s now working part-time. But that explanation raises another question:
Vic Carucci also works part-time and, according to the source, has been credentialed.
This news adds another wrinkle to the larger question: If being part-time is enough to keep John Murphy from receiving a season credential, exactly what is the standard being applied and is it being applied consistently?
BUFFALO VIRAL MOMENT OF THE WEEK
Well, everyone’s media-savvy GM decided to sit down for nearly an hour with Sal Capaccio and Matt Bove, and Brandon Beane—who has been criticized once or 25 times in this space—gave a little more context to his favorite “we were in on it” narrative. Beane said the Bills tried to make a trade last year with a team inside the division, eventually met the asking price, and then the other team got cold feet or basically ghosted him. Fine. Maybe it was the Jets. Maybe it was the Dolphins. And maybe that’s exactly how it happened. But you’ll have to forgive me if I don’t automatically accept the One Bills Drive version of events as gospel.
That’s because we’ve played this game before.
There was Antonio Brown, where the reporting at the time made it sound like Buffalo was damn close to acquiring him before Beane pushed back on just how close it actually got. There was LeSean McCoy, who was publicly treated like part of the plan before getting released at final cuts, followed by the explanation that they wanted to give Shady an opportunity to find another team when it was obvious they couldn’t trade him and tried waiting.
And then there’s the Sean McDermott firing. Beane has publicly maintained that firing McDermott was Terry Pegula’s decision and that he had no input, while Tim Graham has reported that Beane absolutely was involved in the process. Maybe there’s some lawyerly distinction between being involved in discussions and Terry ultimately making the decision, but that’s exactly why I don’t take every public explanation literally.
Remember 2022 free agency, too? Beane spent the lead-up talking about not being a big spender and sticking with the draft/develop/re-sign philosophy. Then Von Miller became available and the Bills handed him six years and $120 million.
And you know what? I didn’t have a problem with it! Plans change. Opportunities become available. NFL general managers shouldn’t tell us exactly what they’re planning to do anyway. But that’s also the point:
if Beane isn’t going to tell us his actual plans before something happens—and he shouldn’t—why are we supposed to treat every explanation afterward like sworn testimony?
The same thing happened with Stefon Diggs. Beane publicly defended Diggs, called him a No. 1 receiver and said he wasn’t wavering from that stance. A few months later, Buffalo traded him and willingly swallowed a gigantic dead-cap hit to make him somebody else’s problem. Again, that’s the job. Protect the player while he’s yours. Protect his trade value. Protect the organization. Massage the truth when necessary. I’m not clutching my pearls because an NFL general manager occasionally gives the media a version of events that benefits his organization.
That’s why when Beane tells us Buffalo was absolutely willing to make a move, met the other team’s price and then got ghosted, maybe that’s exactly what happened. I just don’t understand why I’m obligated to believe every word of it. Beane is a smart guy and he’s very good with the media, which is probably why his explanations tend to get accepted more readily than they should.
But Antonio Brown, McCoy, Von Miller, Diggs and the McDermott firing should have taught us something by now: Brandon Beane’s job isn’t to give Bills fans a completely transparent accounting of everything happening behind closed doors. His job is to run the Buffalo Bills. So spare me when “Brandon said it” is treated like the end of the discussion.
STATHEAD OF THE WEEK: 8
Ray Davis established himself as one of the NFL’s best kickoff returners last season. Now he’s getting work at punt returner, and the idea of having one guy do both jobs isn’t exactly revolutionary.
8 NFL players handled over 20 punts and over 20 kickoffs last season. The average team had about 26 punt returns and 65 kickoff returns over the course of the year.
The Bills also have their own blueprint. Andre Roberts handled both jobs in 2020, returning 29 punts and 32 kickoffs while averaging 9.9 yards per punt return and a league-leading 30.0 yards on kicks. So maybe Buffalo doesn’t need to burn a roster spot on a designated punt returner who might see six offensive snaps between now and Thanksgiving. I know he had a Fumble during the last preseason game and it will be dissected to death, but let the All-Pro kick returner do both and call it a day.
DAD SHOTS
—Thank God the preseason is over. As you can probably tell from reading my stuff this month, I pay zero to no attention to it. I used to shitpost about preseason games in my younger blogging days, but at this point, the juice just isn’t worth the squeeze. But if we’re going to keep getting sucked into the GREATEST TRAINING CAMP STORYLINES OF ALL TIME every single summer, I figured we should at least keep the receipts. So here are the names we can bring up next year—and every August after that—when somebody tries convincing us that this training camp darling is different.
Here is your “2026 Training Camp Turning Heads or flashed” squad.
Kani Walker, CB- Every content bro has this guy making the team.
Toriano Pride Jr., CB — consistently “flashed” in camp and carried it into preseason action.
Mike Danna, DE — Two-sack sequence against Carolina.
Jordan Hancock, DB — one of the young defensive players who kept showing up throughout camp/preseason but got torched last year. But Pat Moran Loves him.
Ja’Mori Maclin, WR — generated late roster-bubble buzz with his preseason play and cousins of Jeremy Maclin. We all know if you are part of a football bloodline, you are gonna get acknowledgement.
Keonta Jenkins, LB — another defensive back who made plays and got August attention.
Lee Wheeler, RB — Always gotta have a training camp RB.
Keleki Latu, TE — had some good preseason moments and adds to the greatest tight end room since Brazzers first launched.
None of these players will do anything this season. I hope everyone got their viral videos in and got tons of likes for promoting these guys on social media. Now I’ll get a text from Pat Moran telling me I suck, and one of these guys is good, and training camp rules!
—www.joefromqueens.com is now live. Yes, I went to Go Daddy to open the domain. No idea how this will help in the long run, but I want to be cool. Make sure you subscribe if you haven’t.
—The guys over at Trainwreck Sports had Rex Ryan on their podcast, which I thought was a good get considering Rex basically NEVER does anything with the local Buffalo media since he got shit-canned. I’d add that caveat, because it also explains why Rex suddenly popped up on a Buffalo podcast after being largely absent from the local media scene:
It may have also been a paid appearance through a sponsor, because at one point they started talking about going to a resort in Tulum. That would make a lot more sense as to why Rex suddenly appeared on a Buffalo podcast after basically avoiding the local media since he was fired. You see this shit every year during Super Bowl week. Players and former players wander down Radio Row doing 15 interviews in an afternoon, and then five minutes into every conversation you realize why they’re actually there: “Speaking of the Super Bowl, that’s why I’m partnering with Preparation H, Video Factory or Zappers…”
They’re not doing a nationwide media tour because they suddenly woke up desperate to talk football with every afternoon drive host in America. They’re there to whore out whatever product is paying them. So Rex’s appearance may have been some version of that, which is totally fine and I would do the same if offered the opportunity to interview him. Also, drinking with Rex in Mexico sounds like a fun regretful train wreck.
I did have one bone to pick with the interview. There was a little too much trying to force the narrative that people in Buffalo still love him. Now, I don’t mean to appoint myself mayor of Buffalo or make some ridiculous blanket statement for an entire fan base, but I have NEVER met a Bills fan who still likes Rex Ryan. Maybe they’re out there. I’ve just somehow avoided every single one of them.
The more interesting part, though, was Rex talking about the media. There was definitely a little big-time tone to it when he talked about New York City being the mecca and how everybody wants to come here to work in sports media. He did put over some members of the Buffalo media, but then he went the other direction and basically said some of the media there sucked.
And that’s when things got interesting.
It sounded like Rex was about to get into specifics, and then the video suddenly had this sloppy little edit/effect that sure made it seem like somebody’s name might have been removed. Rex continued by saying Terry Pegula could do whatever he wanted and ”just buy the paper.”
Well, now my media Spidey Sense is tingling.
That certainly makes me think Rex had an issue with somebody at The Buffalo News. He also talked about someone trying to make a name for himself, which immediately made me wonder if he was talking about Tyler Dunne. That’s only my hunch—I don’t know who Rex actually named, or if he named anyone at all—but the history certainly makes Dunne an interesting possibility. While at The Buffalo News, Dunne wrote a pretty brutal piece about the dysfunction surrounding Rex’s Bills, including criticism of Ryan’s work habits and the perception that he wasn’t putting in the hours you’d expect from an NFL head coach. Again, **I’m connecting dots here, not reporting that Rex said Tyler Dunne’s name.** But between the reference to the newspaper, the comment about somebody trying to make a name for himself, the apparent edit and Rex’s history with Dunne’s coverage?
My Spidey Sense has seen worse conspiracy boards.
—So are NFL owners actually going to get in trouble for getting in trouble off the field now? Because we’ve been down this road before. Robert Kraft got busted in the infamous rub-and-tug case, the NFL told us its Personal Conduct Policy applied to everybody, and ultimately nothing happened to him. Now Jed York is getting arrested in Ohio after allegedly responding to an undercover prostitution ad and somehow winding up getting handcuffed at a trailer park like he was looking for Ruth Langmore from Ozark. And unlike Kraft, York actually pleaded no contest to misdemeanor charges. Maybe the NFL does something this time. Roger Goodell says the league is reviewing it. But if players are constantly told they’re representing the shield 24/7, shouldn’t the billionaires who own the damn shield have at least the same standard? Fellas, you are billionaires. Figure out your sexual proclivities in a more legal way or find middle man like Turtle from Entourage.
—Once again, the anti-trans grift decided it needed to invade the news, this time with that shitty ex-NBA player getting kicked out of a WNBA game and then immediately running to your favorite right-wing platforms to pretend he suddenly gives a shit about women’s sports. Oh, and the other shitty ex-NBA player showed up in a wig so they can get their clicks but fight for women’s equality.
Spare me.
This is the part of this whole thing that drives me insane. These guys spend approximately zero minutes of their lives talking about the WNBA until they figure out they can use women’s sports as another front in the culture war. Then suddenly they’re the biggest defenders of female athletes on the planet. These dopes should be banned from WNBA arenas. And spare me the argument that banning them only gives him them attention or somehow makes things worse. They already want the attention. That’s the entire point. They get tossed, becomes the victim, hits the right-wing media circuit and everybody gets another 48 hours of outrage content. At some point, taking a stand matters more than worrying about how the jerkoff you’re taking a stand against is going to spin it.
If you’re going into a WNBA arena specifically to turn transgender people into the punchline of your little publicity stunt, the league and its teams don’t have to play along. And if you actually give a shit about women’s sports, here’s a crazy idea: support women’s sports when there isn’t a transgender person for you to yell about.
—It will always be Lake Ontario.
—Nothing is more water down than roster projection pieces.
— If you don’t want Ray Davis as a punt returner there’s history to indicate that the returner may not be on the roster yet. Bills Brandon Beane has basically treated punt returner like something you can pick up on the way home from work. Isaiah McKenzie was claimed off waivers in November 2018. Nyheim Hines showed up at the 2022 trade deadline and took over return duties. Brandon Codrington was acquired at final cuts in 2024.
—So are the Bills eventually going to sell commemorative new stadium preseason sod through Steiner Sports? This whole thing started with Tim Graham reporting that players weren’t exactly thrilled with the new field. Then Matt Bove had quotes from players not exactly giving a ringing endorsement a few days later. Then the AP gets quotes from Bills president Pete Guelli saying everything is fine.
It’s becoming an interesting pattern with the new stadium. There was all-22 footage on Twitter on Friday showing divots all over the field from the final preseason game. Then a story breaks from BN with quotes from President Pete saying everything is fine by league standards…but we want to get better. Then we had quotes from the Lawnmower man saying this was all part of the plan. Even after this story dropped, channel 2’s Nate Benson, who has been a thorn in the Bills side about PSLs and their relationship with the local government, had tweeted this
Maybe everything is fine. But apparently even the grass at the new stadium needs a PR strategy. Anyways, get ready for this on Monday when everyone asks the players about their thoughts on the grass…
—So to give you a much better family update than me bitching about bedtime and children’s books, I have to put over my sons and the Mrs. For starters, Andy has been an amazing big brother.
He’ll randomly yell, “BABY BROTHER, I LOVE YOU!” which immediately reminds me of Tommy Boy when Chris Farley is cow tipping and tries to save Rob Lowe from the shit: “I’ll save you, brother! I love you, brother!” That’s basically Andy and Luke right now.
I’ve heard all the horror stories about introducing a newborn to a three-year-old and the jealousy that can come with it, but so far these two are getting along more like the Stark siblings than the Targaryen siblings. Hopefully we can keep it that way. Andy is also completely fascinated by the fact that Luke can’t eat food yet. He constantly asks us why Baby Brother can’t eat, and we have to explain that Luke doesn’t have any teeth.
This has now created a new fear for me: Andy eventually deciding to solve this problem himself and going rogue by shoving a carrot down his brother’s throat.
He also loves going over to Luke’s bassinet and shaking his head around while making ridiculous faces at him. Luke just stares back at him, probably wondering what the hell he was born into.
Speaking of Luke: this kid is HUGE.
As of last Friday, he was already 12 pounds, and he just turned two months old on the 30th.A lot of the credit for that goes to the Mrs., because she has been absolutely on it when it comes to feeding him at all hours of the night and entertaining Andy. Meanwhile, whenever I’m responsible for the middle-of-the-night bottle feeding, Luke acts like I’ve personally insulted him.
The bottle is apparently unacceptable.
He definitely prefers the boob.
And really, who can blame him?
—If you made it this far, I thank you. I won’t be on Pat’s podcast this week because I’m heading to Cape May, New Jersey with the family. I’m sure he’ll be breaking down the 7th WR and pretend to be shocked that someone made the team. I have absolutely no clue how we’re going to survive a three-hour drive with a seven-week-old and a toddler, but I’ve watched National Lampoon’s Vacation enough times that I feel like I can troubleshoot just about any situation. What could possibly go wrong?
As for content during the regular season, I’m still figuring out exactly what the schedule will look like. One thing I do know: I’ll have a Bills recap up shortly after every game, and Bills, Takes and Dad Mistakes will probably move to the middle of the week. I’m also working on some other pieces and ideas that I’m excited about. But one thing I don’t want Joe from Queens to become is an aggregator where I feel obligated to post every single day because Joe Brady revealed what he had for breakfast during his press conference.
That’s never what I wanted this place to be.
I’ll write when I feel like I have something worth writing about. Sometimes that’ll be the Bills. Sometimes it’ll be the Sabres, media, TV, being a dad or whatever else is rattling around in my head that day. I’d rather give you something I actually care about writing than manufacture a post just because the content machine says I need one.
Thanks as always for reading and wish me luck on the drive to Cape May. I may need it. Have a good rest of the week and walk 10,000 steps a day.
My absolute favorite quote about punt returners is still Wade Phillips' classic 'He's not really a punt returner, he's more of a punt catcher.' Forgive me if I forgot who he was talking about...
