The Buffalo Bills Reunion Tour Never Ends
Who doesn’t love Tre’Davious White?
Seriously. He’s one of the most popular Bills players of the last decade, and rightfully so. He was a hell of a player, a fan favorite, and someone who gave this franchise some terrific years.
And on paper, bringing him back seems fine.
I’m not going to sit here and lose my fucking mind over a practice squad signing because I already know what the response is going to be.
“Dude, he’s on the practice squad. Who cares? What’s the big deal?”
We heard the exact same shit last year when Gabe Davis came back. People acted like he was being brought in to carry the equipment bags. Then, within a couple of weeks, he was back on the field and did nothing except get hurt.
So don’t tell me Tre White isn’t going to play. Have you watched this secondary lately? It’s a fucking mess. If White has anything left in the tank, there’s a pretty good chance they’re going to find a way to get him on the field. And maybe he can help. I certainly wouldn’t be against that.
But here’s my bigger issue.
HOW MANY FUCKING TIMES ARE WE GOING TO BRING BACK FORMER BUFFALO BILLS?
Seriously, dude. Are we running an NFL franchise or organizing a high school reunion?
Every time this team has a problem, it feels like the solution is to dig through the old contact list and see who’s available.
And the funniest part of this whole thing?
Sean McDermott has to be laughing his ass off somewhere.
For years, part of the narrative surrounding McDermott was that he loved bringing back familiar faces. His guys. Players who knew the system. Players he trusted. Players who had already been through Buffalo.
Remember this piece from TBN about McDermott’s say in roster construction after he was canned..
Well, McDermott isn’t the head coach anymore, and here comes Brandon Beane doing the exact same fucking thing.
“Hey, Tre! How’ve you been? Wanna come back?”
There’s a part of me that wonders if part of the reason they did this was to throw cold water on the 5-alarm fire of CJ Gardner-Johnson and bring back a guy who the fans and media love. I even saw a couple media people using “!!!!” to describe the signing when they did their QT shit about the news.
Again, I love Tre White. I hope he can still play, and if he helps this secondary, fantastic.
But at some point, you have to ask why this organization keeps finding itself in situations where the answer is to bring back somebody who already played here.
New coaching staff. Same general manager. Same reunion tour.
Apparently, the more things change in Buffalo, the more Brandon Beane keeps everybody’s old phone number.
Stathead of the Week: 627 (15th)
James Cook has rushed for 627 yards through the first six games of the 2026 season, the 15th-highest total by a running back through his team’s first six games since 2010.
Cook is averaging 5.4 yards per carry on 117 attempts with six rushing touchdowns. He’s in some pretty impressive company, including Derrick Henry, Adrian Peterson, Saquon Barkley, Ezekiel Elliott, and former Bills running back LeSean McCoy.
What’s particularly impressive is that Cook has reached 627 yards on fewer carries than several players ahead of him, including DeMarco Murray (158), Derrick Henry in 2021 (162), and Ezekiel Elliott (137).
And here’s another interesting wrinkle: Kenneth Walker III already has 665 rushing yards in just five games this season. Apparently, running backs are having themselves a pretty good 2026.
Viral Moment of the Week on Buffalo X
Death, taxes, and Buffalo residents having a fucking opinion about food. Those are the three constants in life.
You cannot go anywhere in that town without someone telling you about their favorite restaurant, where you should get your pizza, who has the best wings, or why the place you like actually sucks.
I don’t know a damn thing about Mexican food in Buffalo. I think I went to that one Mexican place in Allentown years ago, and I remember it being pretty good. As for matzo ball soup, I couldn’t even tell you where to find a bowl of it in Buffalo.
But I do feel for the Steinfeld-Allen clan because I genuinely wonder what it’s like for them to go out to eat in that town. I have no idea what their living arrangements are, especially with Hailee working in California and the possibility of them going back and forth.
One thing I can tell you is that with their California roots, they know what good Mexican food tastes like. Mexican food in California is no fucking joke. Along with Texas, it’s the gold standard. You cannot mess with it. It’s light-years ahead of what you’ll find in most other places, and I’m sure they’ve had plenty of great Mexican food out there.
I just imagine Josh and Hailee trying to enjoy a simple meal somewhere in Western New York, and the second somebody finds out where they went or what they ordered, Buffalo X turns into a 200-comment argument about why they should’ve gone somewhere else.
The poor guy can throw for 350 yards and four touchdowns on Sunday, but God forbid he picks the wrong Mexican restaurant on Tuesday.
Dad Shots
Dad Shot: You Can Be Happy and Also Miserable
I know what you’re thinking. Joe, you’ve been a giant dick for the last 40 hours when it comes to your Bills content. The Bills are 5-1. Shut the fuck up. You should be happy.
I am happy. I’m also terrified of what we’re going to have to sit through in January.
There has to be improvement. And not to quote Mike Tomlin here, but the standard is the standard. I’m not here to celebrate another heroic run to the AFC Championship Game where the Bills lose and everybody spends the next two weeks talking about how close they were. I’m not interested in another season where every fucking game feels like a life-or-death experience, only for people to tell me afterward that everything is great because they found a way to win.
It’s 2026, people. We’ve seen this movie before. We’ve seen the 5-1 starts. We’ve seen the regular-season winning streaks. We’ve seen the dramatic victories, the Josh Allen heroics, and the inevitable January heartbreak. We’ve seen it so many times that I could probably recite the entire script from memory.
And that’s my problem. I don’t want to watch the same fucking movie again.
I can be happy that the Bills are 5-1 and still be concerned about what I’m watching. Those two things aren’t mutually exclusive. Wanting this team to improve doesn’t make me miserable. It means I actually expect something more from them.
Because at this point, winning games in October isn’t the standard anymore. Winning in January is.
And if your response to every legitimate concern is “Shut up, they’re 5-1,” then congratulations. You’ve officially lowered the bar to the point where another playoff disappointment is somehow going to qualify as a successful season.
I’m not asking the Buffalo Bills to make me happy in October. They’ve been doing that for years. I’m asking them to stop making me fucking miserable in January.
Dad Shot: Can We Stop Letting Montreal Ruin Our Week?
I am getting really fucking tired of the Montreal Canadiens. Seriously, how many times are we going to watch Cole Caufield find a way to torture the Buffalo Sabres? Two games against Montreal this week, two losses after regulation, and somehow Caufield manages to be right in the middle of both of them. Saturday was especially annoying because the Sabres fought back to tie the game, only to watch Caufield end the whole thing 54 seconds into overtime. I understand that getting six out of eight possible points in a week is pretty good, but this is the kind of shit that gets old. At some point, you have to actually beat these guys instead of constantly settling for the consolation prize of an overtime loss.
Dad Shot: Jack Quinn, Where the Hell Did This Come From?
Four points against Toronto, including two goals, and a Gordie Howe hat trick? Then he follows that up with a shorthanded goal against Montreal? Who the hell is this guy? Look, I am not going to start planning the parade because somebody had a couple of good games in October. We’ve played this game with young Sabres players before, where they look fantastic for a stretch and then disappear for three weeks. But Quinn has the talent, and maybe we’re finally starting to see some consistency.
Dad Shot: Owen Power is growing
Can we give Owen Power some credit? Power has been playing some excellent hockey, and with Rasmus Dahlin dealing with an injury, he’s been asked to take on more responsibility. That overtime winner against Toronto was a beautiful play, but I’m more interested in the bigger picture. He’s handling major minutes and becoming a significant part of this team’s offense. He’s got 8 points in 9 games and is 2nd in the league in ice time.
Dad Shot: The Sabres Defense Is Scoring Goals. Now Can They Stop Some?
There is something very Buffalo Sabres about having defensemen who can put the puck in the net while simultaneously making you terrified every time the other team enters the offensive zone. I love defensemen who are willing to jump into the play and create scoring opportunities. But holy shit, can we get a little stability on the other end? Buffalo allowed 14 goals in four games the last week, and while they managed to collect six points, that’s not exactly a formula I’d want to depend on for the next six months. You cannot ask your goaltenders to constantly bail you out while celebrating how many points your defensemen are putting up. Eventually somebody has to play defense. I know that sounds like a revolutionary concept, but maybe it’s worth considering.
Dad Shot: My Buddy Sam From Down the Street Takes Over the NBA Preview
I spend enough time driving myself and everyone else crazy talking about the Bills and Sabres, so with the NBA season getting underway, I figured it was time to bring in somebody who knows a hell of a lot more about basketball than I do.
That would be my buddy Sam from down the street here in Queens.
Sam is a huge NBA fan, and I asked him to give us his thoughts on the upcoming season, especially what’s happening with our two local teams, the Knicks and Nets.
And rather than have me butcher his analysis or pretend I’ve been studying NBA rotations all summer, I’m handing him the keys.
Take it away, Sam….
The 2026-27 NBA season has the potential to be one of the most unpredictable seasons in history. Between the new lottery rules, the continued impact of the 2nd apron, an alien forcing his way into the MVP conversation ahead of schedule, and the litany of personnel moves that happened this offseason, it feels especially hard to tell which way this season is going to go for almost every team out there.
But that won’t stop me from speculating wildly…
The New York Knicks
You may have heard that the New York Knicks overcame 53 years of tumultuous history to clinch their first championship since Nixon was in office. It was an incredible time to be in New York City and a moment I’ll never forget. But what now? Mitchell Robinson left in free agency. Contract discussions with KAT and Josh Hart didn’t get very far and are tabled indefinitely. And on paper, this is the deepest the East has been in a very long time.
But, fuck it; I believe the New York Knicks will be the first back-to-back champs in almost a decade.
Am I being bold simply for the sake of being bold? Probably. What’s the fun in being champs if you’re not gonna strut once in a while? But I also look around the league and I see a lot of change. I look at the two best teams in the West and see glaring playoff question marks in their starting 5’s in the form of De’Aaron Fox and Chet Holmgren. I scan the Eastern Conference and virtually every team has made major changes recently. And then I look at the Knicks and see essentially the same team that only lost 3 games on their way to lifting the Larry O’Brien trophy. There’s no question that Mitchell Robinson is a special player whose presence will be missed; especially in a potential Wemby rematch. But am I really going to say that they can’t do it again because they lost their backup center? Hell no. In Jalen I trust. Now and forever. Knicks in 5.
The Brooklyn Nets
MEANWHILE… IN BROOKLYN…
…yikes. If you haven’t already skipped on to the next section, welcome basketball nerd. Nice to have you here.
What is this team? Who are these guys? Is there any real reason to watch them play? The simple answer is not really, no; unless your favorite pastime is naming dudes.
https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTfMyyvGP/
But hell, I was bold once; why stop now? The Brooklyn Nets will have a major impact on the 2026-27 NBA playoffs!
…maybe.
Ok, so I waffled a bit. But honestly, who knows what this team is trying to accomplish. At a glance, you’d say they’re rebuilding but rebuilding to become what exactly? Even if this potpourri of players becomes a competitive team, their ceiling is the 3rd most popular team in their own building. One year ago they took 5 players in the first round and I dare you, NBA nerd, to name 2 of them. I can’t do it without Google’s help and following the NBA is virtually my only hobby.
However, they do have a nearly 7-ft former champion on their team who is still under the age of 30 and averaged 27-7-3 last year with a career 3P% of nearly 40. And there’s a decent chance that Michael Porter Jr. will be the marquee trade chip of this season’s deadline. If he goes to a serious playoff team, he could be the piece that tips the scales in at least one playoff round.
Dad Shot: Trouble in the Monday Night Football Booth?
I got a pretty good laugh reading the Front Office Sports report about Joe Buck and Troy Aikman reportedly getting into an argument before the Bills-Rams game over their contract situations. Buck recently landed a six-year extension worth more than $100 million, while Aikman is still waiting for an offer from ESPN. Apparently, Buck tried to break the ice about the situation, and things got a little heated. I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall for that conversation. Imagine having to sit next to somebody for three hours and call a football game after arguing about who’s getting paid.
I’ll say this about Aikman: I think he’s gotten considerably better since moving to ESPN. He seems more willing to speak his mind, criticize players and coaches, and generally be more aggressive than he was during his Fox days. Of course, Dan Le Batard hilariously caught him repeatedly describing practically everybody as being “as good as anyone in football” during the Chiefs-Broncos game earlier this season. Le Batard started counting the variations, and once you notice something like that, you can’t unhear it. Still, I think Aikman has become a much more interesting analyst over the last few years.
What I find fascinating is how these broadcasting partnerships handle contract negotiations. Do Buck and Aikman discuss their salaries beforehand? Do they negotiate together? They’ve been partners for 25 years, which is longer than a lot of marriages. I also wonder if Buck’s new contract involves ESPN using him for additional sports or other Disney properties, which could explain why his negotiations were handled differently. That’s speculation on my part, but he’s a versatile play-by-play guy who can do a hell of a lot more than football.
As for Aikman, I wonder where ESPN draws the line financially. They’ve handed enormous contracts to Pat McAfee and Stephen A. Smith, and Aikman has been broadcasting NFL games for a quarter-century. He’s also getting older, and at some point ESPN has to decide how much it wants to invest in its next generation of broadcasters. I don’t blame Aikman for wanting his money, especially after watching his longtime partner get paid. But the funniest part of this entire story is that the two apparently settled down and called a terrific football game like nothing happened. That’s television, folks. You can be pissed off at the guy sitting next to you, but once that red light goes on, you’re best friends again.
Dad Shot: What Happens in Vegas Is Sponsored by Someone
I was mildly surprised to see that Mike Schopp and the Bulldog were heading to Las Vegas to broadcast their WGR show ahead of the Bills-Raiders game. Honestly, I can’t remember the last time WGR sent its hosts somewhere to do a remote broadcast outside of Buffalo or Rochester. Maybe you have to go all the way back to the early 2000s, when Schopp and the Bulldog first started working together and were doing shows from the Super Bowl. It’s been a long damn time, that’s for sure.
My first thought was whether WGR suddenly had some extra money lying around now that it no longer holds the Bills’ radio rights. Audacy went through bankruptcy and restructuring, and for years I’ve operated under the assumption that the company didn’t have two nickels to rub together. So the idea of flying two hosts across the country, putting them up in hotels and broadcasting from Vegas seemed a little surprising. Did somebody suddenly find a travel budget hiding in the couch cushions?
Well, a source in radio offered an explanation that makes a lot more sense. According to the source, the trip is being funded by a gambling-related advertising client associated with the show rather than coming out of WGR’s regular travel budget. I haven’t independently confirmed the financial arrangement, but it certainly adds up. You’re heading to Las Vegas, the gambling capital of the universe, with a sports-talk show that regularly discusses betting. That’s about as natural a sponsorship opportunity as you’re going to find.
And good for Schopp and the Bulldog. I’m all for radio stations getting their hosts out of the studio once in a while, especially when there’s an opportunity to do something different for the audience. I just found the whole thing fascinating because, for years, the impression has been that terrestrial radio companies are constantly tightening their belts. Apparently, the secret to getting a road trip approved in 2026 isn’t having a big game on the schedule. It’s finding somebody willing to pick up the tab.
Dad Shot: Eyes on the Wrong Ball
So apparently the new White House press secretary sucked and lasted as long as the career of Dre Archer. Guess what? I don’t give a shit. While everyone is busy dissecting press briefings and arguing about whether the press secretary was any good at the job, there are actual reports about how the Trump administration could try to tip the scales in the upcoming midterm elections. Reuters just published an investigation outlining nine potential ways the administration could interfere with the election process. That should be the lead story on every news program in America. Not another segment about the shitty press secretary who will probably be a panelist on Fox and dumb fucking friends. We’re talking about the integrity of our elections, and somehow the media keeps getting distracted by the sideshow. Get your priorities straight.
Dad Shot: When Medical Negligence Gets Mistaken for Toughness
Yeah…this isn’t commitment. This sounds like a fucking plotline from the next season of Playmakers, where team doctors decide a blood clot isn’t a big enough issue to keep their quarterback off the field.
And furthermore, while I give these national NFL insiders credit for breaking stories, they carry so much water for teams and agents that they sometimes forget they’re supposed to be journalists.
Maybe Tom Pelissero thought he was complimenting Jalen Hurts for his toughness and dedication, but this isn’t a story about commitment. It’s about medical judgment and potential negligence.
When a player with a blood clot is cleared to play football and fly across the Atlantic, and we later learn he has blood clots in his lungs, shouldn’t we be asking some serious fucking questions?
Stop romanticizing toughness and start questioning the people responsible for protecting these players.
Dad Shot: Even Netflix Isn’t Safe
You know the television and streaming business is in dire straits when Netflix, the company that practically reinvented how we watch television and has made billions of dollars in profits, decides to lay off another 1,000 employees. For years, Netflix was supposed to be the future of entertainment while traditional television slowly died. Well, apparently the future isn’t looking so great either. We’re talking about a company with more than 325 million subscribers worldwide, and even they’re cutting jobs. As someone who’s spent more than two decades working in television, I’ve watched this industry get absolutely gutted over the last few years. Networks aren’t buying, production companies are struggling, and talented people who have spent their entire careers making television are being forced to find something else to do. At some point, you have to wonder where the hell this business is headed.
Dad Shots: The Dinner From Hell
This sounds like the worst fucking dinner ever. Donald Trump, Bill Maher, Stephen A. Smith and Kid Rock all sitting around a table at the White House. I can only imagine how much of the evening was spent complaining about the evil socialist agenda and how people like AOC, Zohran Mamdani and Bernie Sanders irritate the shit out of these old fossils.
What’s funny about Maher is that he used to endorse Bernie Sanders. But somewhere along the way, it seemed like he realized that the younger generation of progressive politicians and voters didn’t particularly care for him, so he turned into the ultimate boomer comedian, constantly complaining about young people and the left.
And speaking of Bill Maher, nobody watches this dipshit’s stand-up comedy anymore, yet he somehow decided to tell everyone he was afraid for his life. Sure, Bill. I’m sure people are lining up around the block to come after the guy whose entire comedy routine has become complaining about young people and woke culture.
I’d also throw in another theory about Maher’s sudden willingness to kiss Trump’s ass. With Paramount and Warner Bros. merging, HBO is now under David Ellison’s control, and maybe Maher realizes that getting on Trump’s good side isn’t such a bad career move if he wants to keep his show. I can’t prove that’s his motivation, but the timing certainly makes me wonder.
Meanwhile, John Oliver works for the same fucking company and has openly mocked his new bosses while making it clear that he’s not changing his show. Funny how that works.
As for Stephen A. Smith, I sometimes wonder if his entire political worldview revolves around not wanting to pay more taxes. God forbid someone making $60 million a year has to pay a little more.
And Kid Rock? He sucks. He’s always sucked. Fuck nu metal and his entire trailer park rock-star act.
The fact that Kid Rock described this dinner as “epic” tells me everything I need to know. I can’t imagine four people I’d want to have dinner with less.
Dad Shots: The Regression of Andrew
Remember one of my earliest pieces about Andy finally making strides as a soccer player? Well, I have some unfortunate news. The kid has completely regressed.
Saturday’s soccer class might have been the worst performance I’ve ever witnessed from him. He didn’t want to participate, wouldn’t listen, kept rolling around on the ground, and at one point decided to pick up the soccer ball with his hands. Apparently, we’ve abandoned soccer altogether and are now experimenting with rugby.
I have absolutely no idea what happened to the kid who was making progress a few months ago. We went from kicking the ball with authority and actually participating in drills to a complete and total disaster. It was like watching a team that had completely quit on its coach.
At this point, I’m starting to wonder why I’m even paying for these classes. I don’t need Andy to become the next Lionel Messi. I’d just like him to remain upright for 30 minutes and occasionally kick a soccer ball.
The regression of Andrew continues. I’m beginning to think the front office needs to seriously reevaluate the direction of this franchise.
Oh, and Luke doesn’t want to take a bottle from me but wants mommy’s boobs instead, and the Mrs is ending maternity leave in a few more weeks. So that’s great! [Shoots self into sun]
If you made it this far into my piece, I just want to say thank you. Seriously, I appreciate everyone who takes the time to read what I put out.
We recently started doing a paid model for some of our pieces, and I want to give a special thank you to everyone who has spent their hard-earned money to unlock those articles and support this business venture.
I don’t take that support lightly. The fact that people are willing to pay to read my work means a lot to me.
And as a way of showing my appreciation, anyone who signs up for a paid digital subscription will get a gift from me. Just a little something to say thank you for supporting what we’re building here.
Whether you’ve been reading from the beginning or just found us or are a giant hate reader of mine, I appreciate every single one of you. Have a good rest of the week and wash your hands.
